“Psalm 116 begs to be pondered. Unusual is the person who has not been touched by the cords of death and the anguish of the grave. Rare is the one who has not looked down life's road to see the specter waiting...Psalm 116 is not the studied words of one who is preparing a lesson on death and dying. These are the [inspired] words of a survivor of a "close call" who is blurting out his thoughts and feelings to anyone who will listen,” (a reflection on Psalm 116 from Sermon Studies on Selected Psalms John A. Braun, editor).
